Outreach Internship – Summer 2023
Harpeth Conservancy seeks a summer intern to work 5-10 hours/week from May to August (timing is flexible). Harpeth Conservancy is dedicated to protecting clean water and healthy ecosystems for rivers in Tennessee and the summer intern will support that mission through volunteer coordination, outreach, education, and other projects as needed.
About Harpeth Conservancy
Founded in 1999, the Harpeth Conservancy mission is to restore and protect clean water and healthy ecosystems for rivers in Tennessee by employing scientific expertise and collaborative relationships to develop, promote and support broad community stewardship and action.
Ideal candidates are available for these dates (or as many of them as possible):
- May 20 – Lessons on the River (all-ages learning opportunity intended to build capacity for river stewardship, spread awareness about our mission, and encourage participation)
- June 3 – River Clean Up (outreach event intended to engage the public in restoring the health of our river ecosystems)
- June 10 – Dinner in the Creek (fundraising event)
- June 17 – Family Fun Day (festival-lite, family-friendly outreach event)
- June 22 – Cumberland Kayak Benefit Float (fundraising/outreach event)
- June 24 – Lessons on the River
- July 6 – PEN Pals (summer day camp serving children from Nashville’s community centers, with Friends of Warner Parks)
- July 8 – Lessons on the River
- July 11 – PEN Pals
- July 13 – PEN Pals
- August 12 – Lessons on the River
- August 17 – River Swing Patron Party (fundraising event)
Responsibilities
- Assist with summer volunteer opportunities
- Assist with outreach and education opportunities
- Assist with special events
Desired Skills, Experience, and Qualifications
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Willing to work indoors and outdoors
- Graphic design/website experience would be a plus
- Available weekends, as scheduled ahead of time
- Experience coordinating volunteer efforts
- Must be reliable, responsible, and flexible
- Access to a car to travel to various sites in the greater Nashville area
- Ability to participate within a multi-disciplinary team as well as act independently as needed.
- Interest in biology, wildlife, or environmental topics and issues is a plus
