Outreach & Education Internship | Summer 2025

  • 10-15 hours/week (flexible)
  • Late May-end of July 2025 (can be flexible, if needed)
  • Ideal candidate will be available for PEN Pals orientation (late May) & all 7 PEN Pals camp dates (Wednesdays/Thursdays in June/July)

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the “river exploration” session at PEN Pals
    • PEN Pals is a summer outdoor day camp at Warner Parks for over 150 youth from community centers in neighborhoods across Davidson County.
    • The “river exploration” session at PEN Pals takes place along the Little Harpeth River in Edwin Warner Park, 12pm-4pm on 7 dates (usually Wednesdays or Thursdays) during June and July.
    • The sessions aim to encourage curiosity about Tennessee’s biodiverse rivers, foster appreciation for nature through experience, and nurture active participation in our work to prevent pollution in our drinking water supply and to maintain healthy habitats.
    • Session outline, materials, and training will be provided.
  • Assist Harpeth Conservancy staff with summer river clean ups, summer outreach campaigns, and summer fundraising events
  • Assist Harpeth Conservancy staff with social media content creation

Desired Skills, Experience, and Qualifications 

  • Experience coordinating volunteer efforts, facilitating workshops, and working with youth
  • Willing to work indoors and outdoors, able to lift 25+ lbs 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills 
  • Available weekends, as scheduled ahead of time 
  • Reliable, responsible, and flexible 
  • Access to a car to travel to various sites in the greater Nashville area 
  • Ability to participate within a multi-disciplinary team as well as act independently as needed
  • Interest in biology, wildlife, environmental policy and education is a plus
