On Tuesday, August 30th, beginning at 5:30 pm CT, at the Franklin High School, Room 102, 810 Hillsboro Road, Franklin, TN 37064, the Tennessee Department of Conservation (TDEC) is holding a public meeting to consider a draft permit that would allow the Franklin Sewage Treatment Plant to triple the amount of phosphorous it currently discharges into the Harpeth River. As you likely know, the Harpeth is already impaired for nutrient pollution at current levels, and TDEC is obligated under federal law to require discharges be reduced to the appropriate level necessary to meet water quality standards.
We have the right to clean water under Tennessee law. Please plan to attend the August 30th session to request that TDEC change the draft permit to effectuate real progress now and clean up the Harpeth River. In the meantime, read our blog here for more information!
