Forests for Clean Water Webinar

January 28 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm CST

Free
In our December 2023 webinar, we heard from Maddy Johnson about the University of Tennessee’s Community Riparian Reforestation Program. On January 28, 2025, we’ll hear an update from Maddy about progress made over the past year and exciting projects on the horizon. Come learn with us about how planting native trees positively impacts water quality in Tennessee!

Here’s what we know:
  • There are quite a few priority watersheds in Middle Tennessee that are in need of expanded tree planting efforts.
  • These watersheds are rapidly losing tree cover and biodiversity, which can have disastrous effects on local water quality.
  • Strategically planting trees in these watersheds (not just in riparian areas!) can go a long way in offsetting these impacts and providing value to the community.
In this webinar, we’ll learn about how the University of Tennessee’s Community Riparian Restoration Program uses scientific research to identify areas that should be prioritized for restoration. We’ll discuss ways that collaboration can deepen our collective impact as we select sites for invasive species removal and native tree planting in priority watersheds.

This webinar will be presented by Maddy Johnson, PhD student in Plant, Environmental, & Soil Sciences and Graduate Research Assistant with the Community Riparian Restoration Program for Tennessee, a multidisciplinary initiative led by the UT Institute of Agriculture and the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, Division of Forestry.

In partnership with the Community Riparian Restoration Program for Tennessee. Open to the public. Free to attend.
